SSAT Verbal Tips of the Day #1

Based on this small sample, what would you do after checking your answers?

a) If you got them all correct, make sure you still review the questions you weren’t sure of or slightly hazy about.  It’s important that you are as confident as possible about these all the way up through test day.

b) If you haven’t bought a notebook to keep track of all the vocabulary to add to your lexicon, please do buy one.  Add these to the notebook — especially the ones you aren’t as comfortable with.  If you feel like the words are as simple as the alphabet, you do not need to add them to your notebook.  Nevertheless, having a notebook to help you solidify your comfort with any and all SSAT vocabulary will be important in your efforts to master this exam.

c) Lastly, look up the synonyms for all of the words above — especially the ones you don’t feel as confident about.  Nevertheless, check all the different terms that are related to these via the synonyms from either google or thesaurus.com or your favorite reliable reference book.  You’ll want to complement your knowledge of all similar terms and if you want to do even more, research the antonyms as well and become familiar with them as well.

You will need a piece of scratch paper to write down each answer and you will need to complete it within the number of minutes you will discover in the following question:

As a fun exercise to prepare for the quantitative section of the test, how many minutes do you think you would have by only have 5 total verbal questions compared to the complete exam?  Write down the answer at the top of your piece of scratch paper and use a timer to limit yourself to this period.  The potential answers are: a) 1 minute b) 5 minutes c) 2.5 minutes d) 3 minutes

After you are ready, you may start.
